Missing Observation for Estimating the Difference: Ranked Set Sampling versus Simple Random Sampling
نویسنده
چکیده
The estimation of the difference of means of two variables is studied when missing observations are present. The model follows the approach proposed in the paper of Bouza and Prabhu-Ajgaonkar [1993, Biometrical J., v.35, p.245-252] when simple random sampling is the design used for selecting samples and sub-samples. In this paper, a ranked set-sampling counterpart is developed. Their sample errors are compared analytically. A numerical comparison is developed for evaluating the magnitude of accuracy gain due to the use of ranked set sampling.

Ranked Set Sampling for Estimating the Difference of Means
Ranked set sampling permits to use anciliary information to rank the units. The drawing of them using the ranks is at least equivalent to random sampling. In this paper this method is applied for deriving estimators of the difference.

Double robust extreme ranked set sampling (DRERSS) and its properties for estimating the population median are suggested. The performance of DRERSS with respect to simple random sampling (SRS), ranked set sampling (RSS) and extreme ranked set sampling (ERSS) schemes is considered. Real data set that consist of heights of 346 students are used to evaluate the DRERSS method. It is found that when...
متن کاملWeibull-Bayesian analysis based on ranked set sampling
Most of estimation methods reported in the literature are based on simple random sampling (SRS), which to certain extent is considerably less effective in estimating the parameters as compared to a new sampling technique, ranked set sampling (RSS) and its modifications. In this Paper we address the problem of Bayesian estimation of the parameters for Weibull distribution, based on ranked set sa...
متن کاملMultistage Median Ranked Set Sampling for Estimating the Population Median
We modify RSS to come up with new sampling method, namely, Multistage Median Ranked Set Sampling (MMRSS). The MMRSS was suggested for estimating the population median and to increase the efficiency of the estimator for specific value of the sample size. The MMRSS was compared to the Simple Random Sampling (SRS), Ranked Set Sampling (RSS) and Median Ranked Set Sampling (MRSS) methods. It is foun...
متن کاملEstimation of Variance of Normal Distribution using Ranked Set Sampling
Introduction In some biological, environmental or ecological studies, there are situations in which obtaining exact measurements of sample units are much harder than ranking them in a set of small size without referring to their precise values. In these situations, ranked set sampling (RSS), proposed by McIntyre (1952), can be regarded as an alternative to the usual simple random sampling ...
